What to do about noisy and violent neighbors in public housing? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
My neighbors blast their stereo really loud throughout the day and night. It is so loud that even if I use earplugs I can hear it. Their music even causes my door to rumble (literally). They do this in a constant basis and most of the time throughout the entire night. I can’t get any sleep because when I lay down on my bed I can feel vibrations of the music. What should I do about this situation? I can’t move out right now because I am just a college kid and I can barely pay my tuition and any job I get will be low pay and I won’t be able to work full time because I have to attend school. We live in a public housing right now because my parents became disabled. My neighbors seems to be the violent type, I have talked to them about this and they just deny putting on any music at late hours. I’m afraid that if I call the police they will get violent. I can’t get a roommate to move out with either because I have to move out with my parents because they are disabled and I need to take of them. Please help… Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Can you report the problem to your social housing landlord i.e. housing association or council housing department. They may be able to mediate in a sensitive manner and get some results.
Call the police that is what they are there for (one reason). Dont get yourself hurt. People can be revengeful. Smile in their face and politely say hello as you dial 911. Make sure to tell the operator that you do not want them to know you are the ones who called. Dont lie on the neighbors now but let the police know what the neighbors do in the day time is their business but night time is quiet time, as I tell my 3 year old.
well, if you dont do something,,your gonna hear it tonite,,tommorrow night, the night after that, the night after that, on test night, the night after that, the night after that, the night after that,,,,and so on..
talk to the land lord, city code enforcement, a personal appointment with the sheriff, the law,,,and call when they are actually doing it.. maybe even wait till they are all drunk as hell so maybe they will get arrested for public drunks. Keep an eye on them, maybe you can determine they are selling drugs. If you know the sheriff mama, talk to her too… dont’ take their crap. maybe even get some other neighbors to complain also and get them evicted.
really look into finding the number of city code enforcement…mayb can even have a city hall meeting about htem.
Calling the police or speaking to your landlord are your only options. It works, even if you think someone is the violent type most people actually have no balls. They keep doing it because you are not being firm enough. Noise violations can be 1) Anything louder than your basic Harley 2) Anything past 9-10 PM 3) Anything, anytime other than construction that is more than a mild annoyance to be determined by the police.
I go to bed early so do my kids. I have called the police on neighbors singing Karaoke at top volume around 8pm which is before “quiet time” it was determined a major annoyance and they were issued a warning. They were pissed but the police know if there are any kind of violence problems that there was an issue and they know who to look at first.
You don’t want to live like this seriously. I have a temper so usually my solution before calling the police is to help them realize just how annoying loud music is if they don’t stop after a polite talking to, if that does not work I call the police. Just do something about it. My way normally isn’t the right way (blasting Barbie Girl or various Spice Girls songs in the middle of the night) but, calling the police might just do some good.
I am currently going through the same thing, so I can give you a little advice, although I’ll tell you up front your best bet is to move.My next door neighbors fight non stop. You never know when it will start , 3.a.m. ,5a.m. , a peaceful Sunday afternoon, Christmas Day is almost guaranteed. They blast radios , rev motors, slam doors, throw things , scream obscenities almost non stop. Nobody in the house works or goes to school,so sleep is not an issue to them. It’s an old two story house owned by an uncle and they just cram it full of dope heads and drunks and they all get welfare and food stamps and raise hell. The children that they collect welfare for are all sent out to live with relatives. The women collect the welfare and say the men are absent fathers and don’t live there. I tried telling them I was calling the police but they screamed at me and threatened me and didn’t stop the yelling at all. So, I called the police, but by the time they got here everyone was quiet or gone. I later found out they had a scanner and knew every time the police were coming. Also, my vehicle was vandalized every time I called, so I installed security cameras, with sound and recorded all the time. Since they now know they are being recorded, and I can prove what they were doing before the police got there, things have calmed down. They still yell occasionally , but it never lasts long . My vehicle hasn’t been vandalized lately so I guess it is an improvement . I’m still moving in the spring ,but I feel like I won a small battle. Note: THIS TOOK OVER TWO YEARS TO GET HALFWAY STRAIGHT!!! It just isn’t worth it , but I understand your situation. The sound cameras are still a good idea , at least they prove your side and somewhat protect you in court. they are really pretty inexpensive if you get black and white and shop around for the best prices. Mine was about 50 dollars.I hooked it up to an existing TV and VCR I wasn’t using. Also invest in Police Knock Down Mace or Grizzly Spray or a good tazer gun and carry it with you at all times. These types are vindictive , and don’t like anyone telling them what they can or cannot do. Since you do live in public housing , you should be able to go to the apartment manager and get moved to a different apartment, if the manager has to move enough people away from them , they’ll get tired of it and evict them. The law where I live says that if someone is disturbing the peace anytime day or night , they get a warning the first time , a ticket the second time and jail the third time. You have to make sure you report it as disturbing the peace and speak with the police at the scene to make sure a warning or citation is issued . Your laws may vary , ask to speak to an officer or magistrate to find out for sure what your rights are.At any rate , I understand what you are going through, and I sympathize. It is a trend in this country , people who do nothing and are no good are rewarded, people who try to work , go to school or do what’s right get the shaft. I wish you luck , and I wish you and your family well.(Another thought, I don’t know if you have it there or if you qualify, but if your parents are disabled, there is a program that will pay you to take care of them and you can work around your school and work hours, and it may give you all the extra income to move out of there. email me if you need more info on that , I.d be happy to help with any info I have) garbostyle1@yahoo.com
